Painting Over Mold Is Not The Answer
Simply painting over mold is not the answer when trying to remove mold on a wall, ceiling or floor. Many times homeowners think that by painting over the mold it will simply disappear and not come back. Mold will easily grow back through the paint within a short period of time.
The proper method is to clean and remove the mold before painting over the surface. During mold inspections if we come across darkly painted walls in an unfinished basement, this may be a flag that the homeowner is trying to cover up a mold problem.
As a homeowner, if you don’t disclose previous water damage or a mold contamination problem could result in a lawsuit by the new home buyers. Hiring a mold remediation contractor that will properly clean and remove the mold is a much safer option than simply trying to cover it up. Mold will continue to rear its ugly head until it has been properly treated and or encapsulated. If you come across mold in your home it’s best that you consult with a professional remediation company such as Sage Restoration to find out the best way to treat clean and remove the mold. You will be glad you called Sage!
