The importance of Using Containment When Cleaning and Removing Mold

PictureContainment is an important step when remediating mold.
Containment is a barrier that separates a clean area in a home or building from the contaminated area in the home or building. The size and construction of the containment can vary depending on many factors, such as the size of the contaminated work areas, the design of the work area and the complexity of the job itself.

Containment is usually made using 6 mil clear plastic and using containment poles, PVC piping or tape to hold it in place. It’s important that the containment is secure and air tight.

There are three types of containment:
  • Source containment is used primarily in very small areas of contamination that are less than 10 square feet in size.

  • Local containment is used in work areas that are from 10 square feet to 100 square feet in size and are larger and more complex work areas.

  • Full containment areas are typically larger than 100 square feet area and normally used for entire rooms or sections of a house or building. Full containment can utilize decontamination chambers that are used where equipment can be cleaned before entering another area or technicians can decontaminate themselves before passing into another work area.

It’s crucial that the company performing a mold remediation in your home or building is using proper containment to prevent cross contamination into unaffected areas of the property.  It’s also important that only authorized people enter containment work areas.

If your home or business are in need of a mold remediation, give Sage Restoration a call.  You will be glad you did!  #ServiceWithCompassion  www.SageRestorationKC.com
