Sewage Clean up from Carpet and Pad or also commonly referred to as Category 3 water or black water cleanup, must be done correctly to keep contaminants from cross contaminating other items in the home or the occupants themselves.

Most Category 3 water losses consist of sewage or sludge from back-ups from over flowed toilets with feces, or backed up drain lines or even from ground water often experienced during over the ground flooding.

All porous or semi-porous materials affected by Category 3 water must be tossed out including but not limited to, carpet/pad, drywall, furniture, toys, etc…

It’s a good idea to store unused contents in plastic bin containers instead of cardboard boxes. That way the plastic (non-Porous container) can be clean and disinfected while keeping contents inside clean and unaffected from the contaminated water. It’s also a good idea to keep all contents off  of the floor on shelves as that will help keep any contents from being affected by water intrusion. It’s also a good idea to make sure that you are properly insured for drain backup or sump pump failure that way your insurance company will cover this type of water damage. It’s best to check with your insurance agent about this.

After affected materials are removed we then clean and sanitize the contaminated area. Health and safety are always our #1 priority when working in areas affected by Category 3 water.  Remember in the event you have water or sewage back up in your home…Call Sage!  You will be glad you did!
