In our line of work at Sage Restoration, we see a lot of devastation from floods, hoarding, mold, fires and more. There are so many causes for each of these, but the outcome is unfortunately the same – stress, heartbreak and loss (emotional, physical and financial). While we pride ourselves in providing exceptional restoration services, we care about the well-being of our clients and our community members.
We have all heard that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It’s heartbreaking when we enter a home or business that has experienced some form of devastation that could have been prevented.
For example, we rarely hear about fires caused by air conditioners. However, they happen – all the time. And as we embrace August’s heat and humidity, air conditioners everywhere will be whirring. So, what can you do to make sure your system is safe?
Take a look at the top causes of air conditioner fires and what you can do to prevent them:
Overuse so the equipment heats up: Let’s face it: when it’s hot and muggy these poor units get worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This can cause units to overheat and break down. Since most fires start during the PEAK hours of electrical usage, why not give your AC unit a break during the peak hours (your electrical energy company will know what the peak hours are for your area)?
Not properly maintaining the AC units: All mechanical and electrical equipment needs regular proper maintenance.
Do you have a central AC unit?
Do you have a window unit?
Once you have your air conditioning unit or system checked and maintained, be sure to Install fresh batteries in your smoke detector. This should be done each year. In addition, keep a working fire extinguisher in a convenient place (out of the hands of children).
In the event you do experience a fire, don’t attempt the cleanup yourself. The experts at Sage Restoration will work with you and your insurance company to make sure we get you back into your safe and restored home or business. #ServiceWithCompassion.
