Cat urine is one of the toughest odors to remediate but it can be accomplished is done correctly. Cat urine puts off an incredible ammonia odor and many times male cats will also urinate on the walls to mark their space. When we are doing with cats and especially male cats we will walk through the property with a black light when will illuminate areas with a high amount of protein which can be urine, blood etc. That way we know whether we need to treat and encapsulate the walls like we have to do with the subfloor.
Day 3 was spent removing remaining pieces of carpet pad and tack strips and when that was done we cleaned the flooring and 4 feet up on the walls with a deep cleaning and disinfection product, followed with an odor counteractant. We then place professional grade dehumidifiers on the main level and second floor to thoroughly dry out the sub floor and walls. We also leave air scrubbers running that remove contaminants from the air along with an hydroxyl machine which helps remove odor from the air. The equipment is left running until our crews return the final and 4the day to apply an encapsulant. are skilled at completing tough jobs like these so we are normally to knock out a typical hoarder job in 2-3 days.
Watch the video to see how we went about our clean up the first couple of days.
