Appliance fires can occur when you least expect it. Every home has electrical appliances and some may often have gas appliances. No matter which or what appliances you have, fire safety is key. Always make sure your appliances are in good working order. If they happen to be broken or faulty always have them repaired by an appliance specialist. It’s important to call an electrician to have additional outlets installed instead of using or overloading extension cords. It is also a good idea to unplug coffee makers, blenders, toasters and other small appliances before leaving home for the day.
Here are a few safety tips in regards to your washing machine and dryer:
Never leave your dryer running when your away from home
Keep dryer vent clean and free of debris and lint
Avoid over loading your washer and replace old water hoses with new flexible hoses.
Many fires occur due to people accidently turning a burner on their stove on or forget to turn all the way off. This is dangerous because someone who doesn’t know the stove is on can set something on the stove that will catch fire.
Always make sure you have working smoke alarms in your home and an exit plan if a fire does happen to occur or keep a fire extinguisher handy to put out a fire.
