Taking Extra Care with Water Damage
Cleaning water damage in an assisted living facility takes extra care, patience and caution. In the spring of 2016, Sage Restoration was called to help move the contents of an elderly couple who had experienced water damage in their assisted living apartment.
Unfortunately for these seniors, their Saturday morning did not start out like they wanted or expected. When they went to get their morning coffee, they were greeted by their kitchen ceiling falling in and water flooding the floor and cabinetry.
Though our technicians had been working three weeks straight and had been promised the weekend off, they jumped into action. Our belief, as part of the emergency services industry, is that our customers come first. After all, we would want someone there for us if we experienced this type of emotional and stressful event.
Once the Sage Restoration technicians ensured that the source of the water leak had been stopped and extracted from the kitchen, they began the process of moving items out of the apartment. The assisted living facility arranged for the couple to move into another unit until we could get their unit dried out. They could not move back in until necessary repairs were made and the apartment was safe and healthy again.
Now We Start the Pack-Out
After getting the apartment stabilized, we performed a pack out. During this process, we pack out all of the belongings that can be salvaged, categorize every piece we remove from the home and store it in our warehouse for cleaning. We get started right away to help prevent secondary damages to the contents. In this situation, we had to pack up all furniture and contents and move them to another unit within the assisted living facility.
It took us all day to pack up this couple’s dishes, contents and furniture. But, by the end of the day we had them set up in their new unit. They were able to go to dinner, relax that evening and get a good night’s sleep. Emergency situations can be especially stressful to our senior clients because of the disruption to their regular routine. Our company’s culture is built on approaching every job with a sense of urgency, care and compassion.
We were happy that we got the opportunity to help these senior clients during a difficult time. The manager of the assisted living facility was grateful that they had a reliable, responsive contractor they could count on to take care of their residents.
